About NSHRV

The National Coordination Against Honour-Based Violence and Oppression (NSHRV) is part of the Swedish Gender Equality Agency since 1 January 2026.

NSHRV is responsible for coordinating Sweden’s national efforts to combat honour-based violence and oppression, including child marriage, forced marriage, and female genital mutilation (FGM).

This mandate was previously carried out by the County Administrative Board of Östergötland through the National Centre Against Honour-Based Violence and Oppression (NCH) and has been transferred by the Government to the Swedish Gender Equality Agency.

Responsibilities of NSHRV

As the national coordinator, NSHRV is tasked with:

  • Regularly assessing the extent of honour-based violence and oppression in Sweden and monitoring the development of society’s efforts in this area.
  • Producing and disseminating knowledge on honour-based violence and oppression based on research and proven experience.
  • Promoting information exchange among government agencies on issues related to honour-based violence and oppression.
  • Supporting the county administrative boards in their work on honour-based violence and oppression, with a focus on implementing national agencies’ guidance, working methods, and tools at the regional and local levels.

Responsibilities of frontline services and support helpline

The County Administrative Board of Östergötland continues to be responsible for developing and supporting operational frontline services through regional resource centres.

The national support helpline for professionals working in this field is run by the National Centre for Knowledge on Men’s Violence Against Women (NCK) on assignment from the government.
